BattleUK Freestyle Slalom Competitions Attract UK and Euro Skaters
Thursday October 11, 2007
When the NottinghamSkaters held their first BattleUK freestyle slalom competition in October 2006, skaters came from across the UK and Europe to compete.
Now, BattleUK is the main international freestyle skating event in the UK, is a showcase event for the UK Freestyle Skating Association and is possibly one of the World’s top inline freestyle competitions. BattleUK II: Attack of the Cones will take place at the Victoria Leisure Centre in Nottingham on Saturday, November 10th, 2007. Skating teams from the UK, France, Germany, Belgium and the USA will compete in freestyle slalom, speed slalom, freejump and slide competitions, as well as a freestyle dance-off. There is no charge for spectators.
Freestyle skating, particularly slalom, is slowly increasing in popularity around the world, and the NottinghamSkaters hope that BattleUK II will increase interest across the UK. The UK Freestyle Skating Association is the national body for the sport and is a member of the British Roller Sports Federation. Carlesa:
What exactly is freestyle skating? Could you explain what the difference is between freestyle figure skating (on ice) and freestyle skating on inlines? It sounds like they are very different disciplines. Are there any similarities?
Thanks!

The “freestyle” in this post is a segment that is an off-shoot of aggressive and recreational inline skating with some dance footwork that is similar to jam skating. Sometimes this “freestyle” may be called urban skating or free riding, too. It includes the slalom cones and some stunts, slides and the good old grapevine, too. This is more related to the disciplines mentioned above than inline figure freestyle or ice figure skating.
