Shake, Rattle and Roll to Clean Inline Skate Bearings

Sunday November 25, 2007
There is a simple way to clean inline or quad skate bearings that I learned years ago from one of my coaches, Glenn Rocci. All you need is a plastic bottle or container with a waterproof lid that is big enough to hold all of your inline skate bearings and your favorite bearing cleaning solution. Remove your wheels, get the bearings out, shake them up in your container (now partially filled with your favorite cleaning solution), let them rattle around a bit, get them out and dry them, stick them back on your skates and roll away with healthy bearings.

If you'd like to try this in a slightly more official manner, Bones has a wonderful little Bearings Cleaning Unit that includes the perfect bottle with a stem to hold your bearings as the cleanser flows around them. It comes with real instructions, too. Of course, the stem may cause a swish instead of the rattle described above, but it should clean the dust and debris out anyway.
