The Skate Against Violence Roadskate is a 450 mile
anti-violence skate-a-thon that left San Francisco City Hall on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 9:00am and arrives in Santa Monica on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at about 2:00pm. Teamwork between 12 California Outdoor Rollersports Association skaters and 6 support team members is the focus of this event. The 12 skaters are divided into 4 teams. Each team skates for an hour, and the teams rotate every hour. This skate-a-thon will go nonstop 24 hours a day until they reach Santa Monica.
The Skate Against Violence Campaign is designed raise awareness of how the C.O.R.A. inline and roller sports SkateFit Program can benefit youth by providing fun and fitness in one activity. This youth program, based on the President's Fitness Challenge, may not end street crimes, but many young people will benefit from the social and physical opportunities that skating will bring into their lives.
For more information about the President's Fitness Challenge and Presidential Sports Award programs, visit the President’s Council on Physical Fitness. Your local skating club or organization can use inline skating and roller sports to start similar youth fitness achievement programs, too.
