Skate On Rail-Trails Around the United States

Since 1986, the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has helped convert thousands of miles of unused railroad tracks into trails for active people to enjoy. Rail-trails are located in every state and cover more than 15,000 miles across the United States. 1000 Great Rail-Trails: A Comprehensive Directory is a complete listing of every US rail-trail available to the public.

The flat and gentle-grade trails left by old railroal lines are groomed for pedestrian traffic and make perfect sites for inline skating, walking, jogging, bicycling, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. There are many access points on each rail-trail, so you can skate on as much or as little of each trail as you want.

This guide to the top 1000 rails-trails includes information on how to get there, best times to visit, recreational activities, wildlife viewing, wheel chair access and historic sites to see. This is the official directory of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, so you'll find rail-trails for inline skating and many other activities in this book.
