What Can a Skating Coach Do for You?

Saturday November 29, 2008
Have you ever wondered what having a private lesson coach does for a skater? An inline skating coach is like a personal training partner and works hard to maximize your skating potential. He or she listens to your concerns, observes your progress and searches for an approach to inline skating that suits your chosen discipline, individual needs and personal goals. Your coach is usually your instructor, too, since this is usually the same person who teaches you how to apply and use the training approach and techniques.

This is a little different from a group class instructor who may offer the same good training and techniques, but does not have the time to personally supervise the growth of your skating or customize a training program just for you.

New skaters, and skaters looking to improve their skills and potential, should definitely think about spending some time with an accredited skating Coach. Skating is quite a complex skill and not a ‘natural’ human movement, so expert instruction and guidance will help skaters get the most from their practice and speed-up their skill acquisition using proven sport-specific cues, movements, drills and practice routines.

Also, think about joining a club – exposure to other skaters at various developmental levels will inspire you, motivate you, provide a social context for your skating and there’s nothing like being able to watch the experts.

I agree. Skating clubs and teams provide inspiration and role models and eventually skaters who needed these things become the skaters who provide for others. That’s when club and team members also get an extended sense of pride out of the package.

Hmmmm… time to get on top of the club and team info stuff.
