Event director Joe Kaplenk is excited because there is interest in the First U. S. Inline Open Competition from skaters in France, Germany, Iran, India, Singapore, Belarus and possibly from South America. Inline figure skating and inline freestyle slalom skating are disciplines that are used in competitive, exhibition and show skating activities around the world, but very seldom seen in the United States unless you go to a National Championship or a BattleUS type event.
This spring the First U.S. Inline Open Competition will be held at U.S.A. Skate Center, Romeoville, Illinois on May 2, 2009. This U.S. Open is an invitational for all skaters from all countries. All levels of events from beginner to elite inline skating will be offered, including figure free skating, dance, precision, show, basic skills, freestyle slalom, beginning speed and other events from various skating organizations. There will also be seminars from May 1-3 that include off-skate training, sports video analysis, inline skating technique and equipment information.
