Many skaters look forward to new fall and winter scenery on trails and crisp fresh air after skating through a hot, muggy summer. A few skaters even keep rolling outdoors in rain, sleet or even a little snow. But, this is the time of year that many outdoor skaters in my area are forced to look for indoor options and start thinking about how the skating schedule will change for the winter. Here are some winter time alternatives:
- Indoor tracks that permit roller sports
- Roller skating rinks and centers
- Alternate related winter sports like snowboarding or snow skiing
- Fitness training to prepare for the new season
- Ice skating activities in the same or a new discipline

oh this must be hard, here in my country it’s kind of weird how the time changes. today its too cold, tomorrow it’s raining, the day after is sunshine…
im actually still learning inline skating, i hope i can do it outdoors this week.
Warm weather is optimal for inline skating but if you dress properly and the ground is clean (no ice, and dry) you can do it all winter. You can wear winter tights that runners wear in cold weather, a headband under your helmet to protect your ears, and upper body wear that is warm and layered but not too bulky to accommodate your wrist and elbow guards. If its snowing, try snowshoeing. It’s safe, you dont need instruction, just strap ‘em on and walk. All you need are snowshoes, poles and gaiters (to keep snow out of your boots). It’s great for all over fitness! Enjoy!
