On Saturday, April 10, 2010 you can strap on your skates and join the San Francisco Skaters as they roll from the Ferry Building in San Francisco to the Ferry Station in Sausalito. This event is
planned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the California Outdoor Rollersports Association's first skate from San Francisco to Los Angeles during the Skate Against World Hunger in 1980.
Like many good activities, there may be a little glitch... crossing the Golden Gate Bridge is part of the route, and the bridge manager has denied permission to cross the bridge on skates in the northbound direction on the pedestrian side or on the western side that is used for alternative transportation. If they don't allow passage on skates, everyone can just remove skates and walk to the other side of the bridge with the skates held high in protest. After all, inline skating is one of the cheapest and greenest forms of alternative transportation around.
The event itself is free, but plan to pay the $7.85 fare to ride the ferry back. Bikes are welcome, too. Please contact D. Miles Jr. or visit the CORA website for more information if you plan to skate, ride or roll in this event.
