Around this time last season, I discovered snowskating - a sport that takes aggressive inline skating into winter sports. This season another winter style called skate skiing that is related to our inline skating sports is hitting the snow and the media. Skate skiing is not the same as riding a snowskate which is a hybrid of a skateboard and a snowboard, intended primarily to allow for skateboard-style tricks on the snow.
Skate skiing actually uses skating movements and any experienced inline skater or an ice skater, like About.com's Figure Skating Guide Jo Ann Schneider Farris, has an advantage in their first skate skiing efforts because all three use the same basic stride.
The biggest concern in skate skiing is that a broad, groomed snow surface is needed to do it efficiently. So now is a pretty good time to try it, if this is your winter season.
