Adventures really begin with the adult skating students. When I came out to do a private lesson with my favorite 66 year-old student, he immediately laid his body out on the skating surface and began to make a pretzel out of himself.
It sounds a bit scary, but I am proud of Allan, because he does whatever it takes to keep himself fit for skating. It seems that he has some minor hip problems, and his doctor recommended a set of exercises - his pretzel positions - to relieve pressure and increase range of motion just before he skates. "Doctor" is the important word here. There is nothing better than professional help for any type of skating pain or injury.
The recommended pretzel workout, along with other efforts made by this skater to keep fit, really works for him. Allan executed several very nice one-foot spins this evening and walked out without any pain.
