Let's Blog Our Way Into the Olympics

Monday August 18, 2008
I've been writing about the Olympic dream of getting inline racing into the 2012 Games. This is my effort to help keep the buzz going on the internet and help get inline roller sports into the Games. Other sites like the Inline Planet have been doing the same, and some have been doing so for quite a while. Individuals and groups are helping to promote inline via Olympic specific speed blogs, personal site comments or inline racing forums.

Whatever the method, we should share information, ideas and opinions, visit sites and make comments when we can. The Olympics is a numbers game, and we need to have our sport show up in search engines related to Olympics as much as possible to demonstrate our value and interest to the powers that be.

If your site or blog has discussions or articles of interest that I've missed, let me know, and I'll cross link to you in existing or new content. There is power in digital media numbers.

You'll Never Know Everything About Inline Skating

Saturday August 16, 2008
One of our younger club members was disappointed to hear that she would never know everything about her skating sport. She worried that if she didn't know it all, she was not a good skater.

Whether you are a new skater, a coach or a pro, there will always be something to learn - new techniques, new technologies, equipment developments and alternative training methods. So, if it all keeps changing, how do some inline skaters become great athletes in their disciplines?

The most important thing any skater can do to become great is to accept that you can't know it all, but you can still try to get exposed to as much available information and as many options as possible.
  • Keep your eyes focused on what makes others great in your inline sport and learn from them.

  • Learn to keep an eye on related sports, too.

  • Make sure your ears are open to hearing new ideas and concepts.

  • Always be willing to actually try something different in training, equipment or strategy.

  • Remember that even if an alternate method doesn't work, you will gain the insight of knowing why.
Even though you will never know everything about your inline skating sport, you can certainly use information and resources available to the best of your ability while remaining open to anything that can help better your ability. The best skater will be the one who knows that there is more to know and will continue to try to find it.
