How to Get Up From a Fall on Inline Skates

Push Up and Take a Stance

By , About.com Guide

It's important to crawl before you walk or roll, so prepare to get up from a fall by turning over on all fours with both hands and both knees on the ground in a crawling position. You are now ready to return to an upright ready stance on your skates using the following steps.

How to Get Up Safely

  1. Remain on your knees, but bring your torso to an upright position.

  2. Raise one knee up into the traditional marriage proposal position.

  3. Place both hands palms down on the raised knee.

  4. Keep the head and upper body lifted up and push up on the raised knee with both hands.

  5. As the body begins to rise, bring the other skate into an upright position and stand up.

  6. Assume a basic stance with both feet under your body until ready to begin or resume skating.
Most new skaters have more fear of being unable to get up than they have of falling. Once this step is mastered, there will be a lot more confidence to proceed with other skating techniques on inlines.
