- Heart conditions, breathing irregularities or any chronic illness should be resolved, repaired or under a doctor's control before purchasing a pair of skates.
- Arthritic or weak knees should not be used for inline skating without consulting a physician for proper precautions or restrictions for safe training.
- If you can’t walk for long distances, you may have conditions that will make inline skating difficult.
- Brittle bones or skeletal problems are a sign that the impact from a fall may lead to injury.
- Anyone who has had extensive surgery of any kind should make sure that skating sports are approved by a physician.
- Limited access to sidewalks, bike paths, park trails or skaing facilities will prevent regular skating activities.
- Municipal and community rules and laws may restrict some skating activities.
- Indoor skaters may find that they have trouble finding skating rinks or centers suited to their discipline nearby.
