Definition: Balance is a bio mechanical word which describes the ability to keep the body centered over a base of support base - usually the feet with skates on for inline sports - without tipping or swaying. Perfect balance is when the center of gravity is exactly over the feet and skates. Since it is not possible to keep this perfectly stance for long, balance skills are needed for inline skating and most other sports, too.
Good skating balance requires that information from the senses work together to determine and adjust body changes to keep the skater in a stance on top of the skates. Many skaters have natural balance, but balance can be learned or improved with good training, practice and time.
The ability to balance is directly related to the level of difficult maneuvers and tricks that a skater can eventually achieve.
