What is a Y Spiral in Inline Figure Skating?

Definition: A Y spiral on inline, roller or ice figure skates is performed with the skater’s free leg held up in a vertical creating a Y shape to the side of the skater’s body. This position uses an upright body position is held while gliding on the employed skating foot and is usually executed as a catch-foot spiral. Occasionally skaters choose to increase the level of difficulty by holding the leg position without the support of holding the foot.
