History was made when Renault unveiled a Kangoo (Kangaroo) concept car at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The design of this vehicle was influenced by the needs of inline roller skating enthusiasts, a giant leap for any automotive manufacturer. Kangoo was developed by Renault in conjunction with Rollerblade around an inline roller sports theme to attract younger buyers.

The concept car is painted in fireball orange with brushed aluminum accents and details. It also has a full-length panoramic sunroof. The Kangoo interior features a second row that swivels to turn the tailgate into a tiny sitting room. There are special racks built into the tailgate to hold inline skates. And it's upholstered in "skate blue" leather and aluminum grey 3D mesh fabric. The Kangoo concept is powered by a 1.5L diesel 105 horsepower engine with 177 foot pounds of torque.

Some Kangoo Models Are Already On the Road

Renault has other Kangoo models already on the road that are very popular green transportation with leisure seekers as well as mobility-impaired and wheelchair users who need more height and accessibility features. The Renault Kangoo and Kangoo Express panel van and leisure vehicles have been produced by Renault since 1997.
  • The rear windows and rear seats can be removed to make the panel van Kangoo Express.
  • Kangoo can be adjusted to include mounting points for wheelchairs.
  • The Kangoo and Kangoo Express are available with four-wheel drive, raised ride height and in alternate styles.
  • A longer body style is available, with more cargo space.
  • There is a pickup truck version in the Swedish market.
The interiors of some of Kangoo’s existing models have up to 77 liters of cargo space, with aircraft style cargo compartments for passenger use and roof bars that convert into a luggage rack. No tools are needed to make the conversion, and the rack can support up to 80kg of gear.

All of these features make existing and future Kangoo vehicles a great option for inline skaters and other active people who need a relatively inexpensive dependable car.
