Kaylee is one of my figure skaters. She also is a derby girl and played inline hockey for a couple of seasons. Little Ben is a dance skater at heart, but he also competes in snowboarding. Pela and Paulina skate singles and pairs - and love to participate in equestrian activities.
Of course I would like to lock them in the rink to practice, but each alternative or transfer activity helps develop skills, prevents boredom and makes them well-rounded people, too.
Many athletes get involved in a sport and develop tunnel vision. We know you love your roller sports, but the wonderful foundation of basic skills and all of the stamina, balance, strength and flexibility you have built or bought (lessons and equipment costs can add up) can be transferred to other exciting sports activities, too. Downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowskating, skateboarding, ice skating, skate skiing, snowboarding, skiboarding, pilates, snowblading, bicycle riding, walking, running, jogging, swimming, gymnastics and even dance use your skating skills and can help build them, too.
