There seem to be many misconceptions about the availability of skating equipment in the United States. I even get requests from whole speed teams in other countries who need equipment and think that clubs in North America are dumping good used inline speed skates.
It may surprise you to know that a lot of skaters here cannot afford new elite equipment for speed and other disciplines, so good used skating equipment is always in demand. Skates that finally get "dumped" are usually outdated, broken and not safe for use.
I can't speak for all club locations and suppliers, though. So all you have to do is exactly what you suggest... get on all of the forums and club sites to voice your needs. Contact manufacturers directly to find out if they have equipment for athletes that need sponsorship or donations. The need will be much more believable, if the inquiries come from the skaters themselves. Any teams or individuals with extra skates or equipment will come forward.
I like to help skaters in need, but I really do not have access to a big pile of good usable skates waiting for a home. If anyone does know of good new or used inline skates that need a home, there are skaters in Rwanda, Cameroon and other locations that could use them. Feel free to use equipment and personal ads in our forum to request, offer and network skating gear.
