Question: What Are Shin Splints for Inline and Roller Skaters?
Many inline and roller skaters think that shin splints are the diagnosis of a lower leg skating injury.
Answer: Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome) is commonly used to describe pain along the front of the tibia (lower leg) bone. This pain can be caused by bone problems, muscle issues or muscle-to-bone attachment problems. The term shin splints does not describe the diagnosis of a leg injury. It often arises when skaters suddenly increase the intensity or duration of their skating activities. Shin splints are also present in some skaters with a regular schedule of intense practice or performance, whether the quantity of activity increases or not.
