Inline Skates Can Be Borrowed From a Friend or Relative

Loaner Skates Come With Maintenance History

By , About.com Guide

Many skaters are avid collectors who keep every set of wheels they have ever owned. If any of your friends or relatives are inline skaters or have other skaters in their families, check to see what may be sitting around in a closet or basement. If the size is right, this can be a good option, because if there is anything wrong with the skates, they have found it, and you will be properly warned or they just won't loan them to you.

Take these things into consideration before borrowing inline skates:
  • Use care in checking for worn, broken or missing parts.

  • If there is something wrong with the skates, make sure to let the owner know and offer to get them repaired, or don't use the skates. Do not expect the owner to loan them and fix them, too.

  • Never borrow inline skates that are currently in use. That could end a friendship.

  • If the skates are comfortable and in good repair, offer to buy them.

  • Remember that if you break them, you've bought them anyway.

  • You will still need to get new protective gear (helmet, wrist guards, knee pads).
