What is an Attack in Inline Speed Skating?

By , About.com Guide

Definition: The attack describes an inline race situation where one speed skater catches up to and then passes one or more racers in the event by increasing and sustaining their speed until the attack or passing is complete. The attacking skater works hard to speed up the pace of the race to weed out weak competitors - but must have enough strength and stamina to maintain the pace for the duration of the race. These attacks can include breakaways and fliers.
