What is a Backfilp on Inline Skates?

By Carlesa Williams, About.com

Definition: A backflip is a head over heels rotation stunt, done in the air, spinning backwards while wearing inline skates. In aggressive skating a backflip may take off from a ramp, rail, half-pipe or other aggressive structure. In figure skating it is an unassisted reverse somersault in the air from the skating surface. Backflips are banned in figure skating competition, but play a role in show skating, exhibitions and extreme competitive sports like skateboarding and biking.
