Definition: The figure discipline in inline skating is the style of roller skating on inline skates that is most similar to ice figure skating including freeskating, dance and creative events.
Quad skaters who use this style are also called figure skaters. Inline figure skaters sometimes skate at the same venues as the quad figure skaters, but usually compete in separate events and not against quads at these roller sports events due to executional and judging differences. Inline events are not included in the events roster at ice skating venues because of the different skating surface requirements.
Inline figure (artistic) skating has been a part of the Federation Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS) World Championships since 2002 in Wuppertal, Germany.
